How to place it

  • Make the piece about two thirds the width of the furniture under it.
  • Hang it so the centre sits 145 – 150 cm off the floor.
  • Leave 20 – 25 cm between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
  • In a set, the gap between frames is 8 cm.

A three-piece set: each panel runs from 40×60 to 70×100. So three 60×90 panels take 196 cm of wall — 180 for the panels and 16 for the two gaps.

A woman in a wide pale straw hat sits sideways on a black horse, one hand flat on its back, legs hanging bare. She wears a charcoal crop top and loose charcoal trousers, and the horse is cropped at the frame so only its back and hindquarters sweep across the canvas. The ground behind is plain cream, brushed in visible vertical strokes, so nothing competes with the two shapes. A dark mass on a light ground makes it a good piece for a grey or dark wall, and it pairs with the brown-horse version of the same painting. Sizes from 50×70 cm up to 120×180 cm.
